Foodï¼?Beer & Beverage Industry
In foodbeer and beverage industrythe largest application for filtration equipment is the treatment of incoming water for use as a raw material. For examplebrewing is a heavy user of water —about 7 liters are required for 1 liter of beer. A combination of pre-filtrationsoftening,carbon filtration and reverse osmosis (RO)can be used to remove 98% of minerals and salts from a raw water supply and up to 99% of bacteriaresulting in a consistent and high quality supply of pure water. Demineralised water is required for a range of brewing processes.
Membrane filtration is routinely used for a number of applications within the dairy industry where it has become a valuable part of the production process, especially in manufacturing of dairy ingredients. For example, RO is characterized as having a molecular weight cut-off range (MWCO) of less than 200. RO membrane retains all solutes of whey. The permeate is water and some organic acid which mimics the tetrahedral structure of water. RO technology can be commonly found in the separation, purification, concentration process in food, beverage and vegetable industry. |
